Software Development, more And-Or less joy with AI

I was watching this video on youtube: https://youtu.be/SaHHgzoXceU?si=VgQYFLTDxG0VFKm7

So I wanted to comment, and this comment switched to a blog post, so I’m sharing it here…

We can’t ignore something important.. the beauty of solving problems on our own as developers,, like when youre walking and suddenly find the solution, or when you wake up with an idea after thinking about a problem all day, or even when you’’re just sitting in a café and something popups into your mind, whether its a complex issue or a small styling bug. That feeling is a big part of why we enjoy this field.

I do feel like ai has taken a bit of that away… as the video author says.

At the same time, it brings a lot of positives things,, it speeds up the work, helps us build more, and makes the process more enjoyable in same are and more efficient…

In the video the author talks about the beauty of struggling with a problem for days. And sometimes when using ai, it can feel like you are not learning as deeply as before. The step-by-step building process can feel a bit lost, and that can be a bit scary to be honest.

But personally, i still think the positives of ai outweigh the negatives, at least for me, you can learn at your own pace, build more things (whether in a company or on your own), and tackle more complex problems. But one thing is clear, its now even more important to stay strong on the fundamentals, and work to fill the technical gaps. Otherwise, its easy to rely too much on ai without really understanding what’s happening.

For me, the joy ai brings is greater than what it takes away anyways!
